Hulu Plan Ten New Shows With Three Original Debuts
These include several original start-ups as well as imported shows from abroad.
Earlier in the year, they revealed a nine-figure budget which was to be used to acquire and renew programs. As a result, the existing programs have each been given a per-episode budget that matches that accorded to competing content viewed on cable TV. Viewers can expect to sample the first taste of this new content as from the 4th of June.
The new shows all comprise of half-hour episodes of several travel-based series. These include a movie magazine show that features group discussions and animated clips. A scripted pickup basketball comedy titled We Got Next has also been included.
According to sources from Hulu, this roll-out is as a result of reduced nighttime hours for the producers to work with. This made them search for content that was well-done and quirky, which would complement previous night content. These were all modeled around TV programs so that viewers would have no qualms about sampling them.
The producer also added that their previous show was deemed unique and irreverent due to lack of interest in making commercial concessions. This made them dig up their finances so that the style and content was appropriate. Inside sources have also indicated that of the seven new overseas-licensed programs, four come from Britain.
This content is mainly experimental which is being subjected to online tests. The shows include a sitcom, a hypnosis/magic series and a serial political thriller. Reaction to Hulu plan ten new shows with three original debuts is still scant; only time will tell if their offering of new original and imported content will boost their online ratings.
