Satellite TV has revolutionized the way rural communities receive their television signals. Cable television used to dominate the market in paid viewing. But cable companies had a hard time justifying the expense of running cable to rural communities. Satellites fixed that by allowing remote viewing of premium channels.
Cable TV still receives its original signal from space orbiting systems also. But the signal is processed through a central station and broken out through hard wired lines to each house. Much of this is still received as analog. This does allows for certain aspects of the signal to be better controlled.
However new technology has made satellites TV just as fast. Some services boast more channels then that of cable. And the interactive features seem to be much greater.
The ease of setting up for satellites television is simple. All you need is a dish hooked up to a receiver which in turn is hooked up to your TV. This is great for farmers and those that live in the country. However, because of the amount of channels and features that come with this type of service, many users are switching from cable.
Most of the signals are high definition because they must travel digitally. This allows for many features, such as digital video recording, on demand features and special programming packages, like sports and other events.
Now you can get mobile television linked directly to a moving vehicle. The same concept applies here. The signal comes from geo synchronous orbiting communications systems. You can then watch it in a motor home or car.
There has been a great debate over satellite and cable viewing. Over which one is better. Both have their benefits over the other. If you can not get cable in your location, you can certainly get the other. Right now it looks like satellite TV has more options and features. Weather allowing, of course.
